LocalSR.

Your media.
Your computer.

How LocalSR handles files, diagnostics, downloads and support.

Local processing

LocalSR processes the images and videos you choose on your computer. It does not upload them for enhancement or use them to train models. No LocalSR account, advertising or automatic diagnostic reporting is included. The only usage figure the app sends is the anonymous update-check count described under Network connections, and you can turn it off.

The app reads your files and metadata, creates previews and writes separate results. The local queue stores file paths, thumbnails, media properties, settings, job status and output paths. Recipes, benchmarks, models, temporary files and recovery backups are also local. Closing the app does not erase them.

Network connections

Model downloads contact the source shown in the catalog, such as GitHub or Hugging Face. The service receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address and the requested file. Source media is not included in download requests.

The macOS app reads the update feed at herrei.github.io/localsr/updates when it starts and when you check for updates; the Windows and Linux builds do not check for updates yet. Betas released after 0.1.1-beta also send an anonymous count with each update check to the maintainer’s Mac mini: the app version, the update target (such as darwin-aarch64-mps-native) and the release channel. It contains no account, device identifier, file names or media. Turn it off in the Software Update dialog. Planned Store editions will use Microsoft Store for application updates. External website and license links open services with their own privacy policies.

Downloads

Installers and source bundles are served by GitHub Releases. GitHub processes ordinary connection information, including your IP address, and publishes a total download count per file. LocalSR’s download statistics read those per-file totals from GitHub’s public interface; they contain nothing about individual visitors.

In-app update files and the older 0.1.0 and 0.1.1 betas are served from the maintainer’s Mac mini through Tailscale Funnel, which also receives the website visit and app update-check counts. These services process ordinary connection information, including IP addresses and requested paths. The Mac mini counts files it serves once per file, per visitor, per day. To recognize repeat requests on the same day, it combines the IP address and browser or app identification with a random value that changes daily and is deleted after two days. It stores only the resulting hash, never the IP address, and writes no access log. Only daily totals per page, file, app version and referring website are kept. Tailscale’s own handling is described in its privacy policy.

Sharing is your choice

Copy diagnostics puts a hardware and app summary on your clipboard when requested. It omits media names, paths and content. Benchmark reports can be saved locally. Neither is automatically sent. Review logs, screenshots and pasted reports before sharing; they can contain information you add or error details. Clipboard synchronization, operating-system backups and crash reporting follow your system settings.

Storage and removal

Direct editions use ~/Library/Application Support/LocalSR on macOS, %LOCALAPPDATA%\LocalSR on Windows, and ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/LocalSR on Linux. Windows Store data can also be virtualized beneath its package's LocalCache folder. Settings and recipes live under next; model checkpoints live under models. Exports use the chosen output folder.

Removing a queue item does not delete its original or completed exports. Backups can retain older queue information. For complete removal, quit LocalSR, keep a backup of anything needed and delete the relevant local data and exports. This also removes settings, recipes and models. The tested Windows Store uninstall deleted its package profile. Back up that profile before uninstalling if you want to retain it. A verified backup restored it after reinstallation. Other packaging routes may leave local data behind.

Support and website

Public GitHub issue reports, usernames and attachments are visible to others. For private contact and privacy requests, email hermes.reisner@gmail.com. Email is received in the project's Gmail inbox and is not automatically posted to GitHub. Do not send credentials or signing keys.

The website uses GitHub Pages and locally hosted assets. A small script counts visits: it sends the page path and, if you followed a link from another website, that website’s name to the Mac mini. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and does not run when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. Pages work without it. GitHub records visitor IP addresses for security. See GitHub's privacy statement and Pages visitor information.

The publisher is Hermès Reisner, with HerRei as project branding. Contact the address above to request removal of information you sent for support.

Responsibility and your rights

Who is responsible. Hermès Reisner, Basel, Switzerland, hermes.reisner@gmail.com, is responsible for the processing described here. LocalSR is a free, non-commercial project.

Why. Counting visits, downloads and update checks, and keeping the servers secure, serve a legitimate interest: knowing roughly how many people use each version, and delivering the app and its updates safely. The counts are kept only as daily totals that cannot identify anyone. For visitors in the EU and EEA the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR; under Switzerland’s Federal Act on Data Protection the processing follows its general principles. Support emails and issue reports are processed to answer them.

Who else receives data. GitHub (website, installers and issue reports), Tailscale (the Mac mini’s public address), Hugging Face and GitHub (model downloads you start) and Google (the Gmail inbox). Some of these providers are in the United States and describe their safeguards for international transfers in their own privacy statements. Nothing is sold, and no profiles or automated decisions are made.

How long. Daily hashes and their random values are deleted after two days; daily totals are kept. Support emails are kept while they are needed to handle your request and are deleted on request.

Your rights. You can ask what data about you is processed, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You can object to the counting: turn off the update-check count in the app, or enable Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser. Because only unidentifiable totals are stored, most counts cannot be traced back to you. If you think your data is handled unlawfully, you can complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC/EDÖB) or, in the EU, to your national data protection authority.
